The reason for shutdown may be as a result of Yahoo Messenger having heavy competitors and it’s literally everyday the app do have a new competitor. The company has announce they will go offline on the 17th of July, 2018.
Yahoo’s Parent Company, Oath, said;
“WE KNOW WE HAVE MANY LOYAL FANS WHO HAVE USED YAHOO MESSENGER SINCE ITS BEGINNING AS ONE OF THE FIRST CHAT APPS OF ITS KIND.
“AS THE COMMUNICATIONS LANDSCAPE CONTINUES TO CHANGE OVER, WE’RE FOCUSING ON BUILDING AND INTRODUCING NEW, EXCITING COMMUNICATIONS TOOLS THAT BETTER FIT CONSUMER NEEDS.“
However the company (Yahoo Messenger) didn’t give any replacement of their service, but According to the company, They are experimenting with new services and apps, including Yahoo Squirrel – an invite-only group messaging app.
Note: if you are using Yahoo, your Yahoo ID will still work for Yahoo Mail application after the shutdown.
